Brampton BOXED

A blue heron flies over a forested neighbourhood. There is a lake in the forest in the shape of a heart, and various diverse birds inhabit the area. A mural on a traffic light box depicting a blue heron in flight over a forested neighbourhood. The artist posing next to his mural on a traffic light box. A dieline of the mural design. Blurb

Brampton’s green spaces provide us with a vibrant and diverse bird population. Despite the birds' capacity for flight they often spend much of their time within reach of us. They build their nests in our yards, and parks. They frequently use our bird baths, feeders, fountains and other public amenities. It’s often overlooked just how close our relationships are with the local birds.

My project Brampton's Birdhouse examines the intersection between urban and natural environments by comparing the relative spaces between bird habitats and our broader neighbourhoods. I hope this art piece inspires residents to contextualise their lives alongside nature and to find more spots for healing and growth within Brampton, just like the birds do.

Brampton BOXEDis part of the City's Public Art Program. This project explores the artists' connection to the city, capturing the spirit and stories of Brampton.
